Sofia Ashraf does a cover of Nicki Minaj’s ‘Anaconda’ to raise awareness about pollution

Sofia Ashraf from the Eastern region of Chennai, India, has reworked Nicki Minaj’s ‘Anaconda’ in order to take down corporate giant Unilever. At least some good came out of that song. After the corporation finished work at a local thermometer factory near Kodaikanal they proceeded to dump toxic waste into the area before clearing out. This was in the early 2000s.

Unilever have yet to clean up their mess or address (yeah I can rhyme too, Ashraf ain’t got nothing on me) the ramifications of the waste on workers health. The factory managers did not give any protective equipment or inform them of the health risks. Precious underground water sources and forest life has been seriously impacted by the waste. A former worker spoke out about the damage saying that the mercury was “everywhere”.

Ashraf compiled the video as part of the valiant effort against Unilever and it has attracted millions of views on Youtube so far. Sign the petition below and make sure that Ashraf’s message is heard.
